Today I want to discuss about trade mark registration in Australia and US.
I've spent around 30 min to get into the process and cost for that, lucky have found this page. After reading it was easy to understand all details like cost and time. Because I didn't catch much from this link with cost (what I exactly need to pay)
I have applied by the online form. By the way fee for that is less then for paper form. It took around 10 mins of my time. I paid $120 for one class of my service, thanks god all my services are in one class. As I understood within 13 weeks, after that if my TM is fine, I should pay $250 per class ($300 after the 1st of July) and will obtain my TM for the next 10 years then I should pay another $XXX to continue to use it.
When I've complited my application for my Australian TM I wanted to do the same on US's website, but... it wasn't so easy. I can't find the price for the registration of TM, it definitely should be somewhere, but I can't. I started to apply without info about price with a hope it isn't more than Australian. I was right, it's around $270 per class without pre-examination fee like in Australia. But form was really big! Many questions, a lot of text! They wanted to know all about me, my business and logo. There were some strange questions like what is on logo, say colors on logo, say words on logo etc. Yes, it's not something what they shouldn't know, but I just uploaded my logo into the form and they can see it themself. Probably this is why I would pay two times for AU's TM.
Anyway I was too tired and some questions (especially the last ones) drove me crazy, cause I didn't know the right answer. So I decided to stop it and do it the next time. I have seen opportunity to load form in a beginning of online form and was thinking it will ask me to save my form, but no... I remember AU's form has few options "next", "back" and "next time", as I understood (and I hope so) "next time" allows to save the form as well. Maybe I am wrong. But I couldn't find the same option on US's website.
Well it isn't my last post about TM, because I still need to register it in US :)
