We are going to travel around Asia for a year, and all these countries seem a bit not that safe as living in Australia. So we were considering GPS tracker as well as alarm bracelet for our little one. I have made a little research about the best GPS tracker for kids, read all reviews and made my mind on the best one on the market at the moment. I chose Trackimo, see below why.
First, thanks to this page, it was really helpful. I got the best 10 GPS tracker from this page. It's very good made, you can easily compare all features. I don't agree on rang they gave devices but you can do you own rank by comparing them.
The best one recording to that website is Amber alert GPS. I even didn't look into it much, because it updates location every 5 minutes what I reckon is long enough to leave a safe zone pretty far. It works only over North America. Amazon's feedback is not really good, many complains. So I skipped it.
The next one is Trax. It doesn't have a panic button, which was one of the key criterias. Anyway I have looked at the Amazon page to read reviews and was even more disappointed. It has quite expensive price, but most of reviews were are very negative. People wrote it just doesn't work as it should, can't find location, slowly etc. Nice design anyway.
SpotGen3 didn't look much into that, because it doesn't have some features which other have such as zones and speed. Maybe it's good one but why to buy this one if you can have level up one. It seems to be for travellers rather than for kids.
Trackimo has everything I need: 1 minute update, speed and zone features. I was surprised to see very good reviews on Amazon. I was surprised again when I saw it costs $100 and 1 year is for free then just $5 per month without any contract. When I looked other I saw another prices, around $10-15 per month and $20 per month when you use roaming. It covers all countries around the world. I stopped on it, but it then I couldn't find the way to get it into Australia. No one ships it here. I wrote to information center on their website and they said they are about to get it into Australian market and if I can't wait they could send it to me. The device itself doesn't look fancy to me, but maybe it's for the best, it will get less attention.
Filip watch is a great device before giving a kid a mobile phone. It's a watch, but it's a mobile phone at the same time. Kids could call and receive calls from 5 people only, they also can receive text, but can't text back. There is a panic button, zones features, 3 minutes location update. And... it looks really cool, I was a kid I would love to wear it. It also real watch, so kids could learn time. It's automaticly updates minimum each 15 mins, that means a child could leave a safe zone and you could receive a notification about it in 15 mins. It has terrible reviews on Amazon such as location is not accurate, hard to speak over the watch in noisy place, battery life around 4 hours if you set up location update every 15 mins. So the watch could be the great idea but the realisation is far from perfect. It works only over the US, they about to extend to EU zone, but anyway it's not word wide.
Safety Angel is another great watch. The difference is there no normal calls, but kids still can communicate it's like walkie - talkie, they upload a message and you can reply the same way. No texting. Panic button and safe zones are available. Couldn't find any review on them, what is strange.
Which to buy? Is completely up to you. My choice is Trackimo. It's not that great looking as FiLIP watch, but it works without any issues.
Hope it was helpful.
