I needed a device for accepting cards payment over the one weekend. Of course banks could not make contract this short. Though CBA doesn't have fixed contract just join fee, monthly and end of contact fees.
Then I found a company which does hiring EFTPOS machines for short term, but it was pricy.
However I found another cheaper solution, which was PayDirect, and went with it. Unfortunately after sighing a contract I found another cheaper and better solution - PayPal Here.
You can find all info on their websites. Just a few things to compare them.
How much it costs for transaction?
PayPal Here doesn't have monthly fee, their charge 1,95% for transaction. (They had similar to PayDirect device with 2.4% fee, which is not longer available)
PayDirect has a few plans. Without monthly fee it costs you 3.3%/transaction, with $20 monthly fee - 2.2%, $60/month and you will have 1.45%/transaction which is finally cheaper than offers PayPalHere.
You'll see 0.1% less on their website, don't forget about 10% GST, which they decided to not sum in the official price, what I think it's not 100% fair, but good marketing move. Also you have limit of $2500 per day. Chargeback $30.
How much the device costs?
$139 for PayPalHere and $219 for PayDirect.
Transaction without card present
PayPalHere can accept transaction without the card reader. So you don't need to buy it. Though it costs more $0.3 and 2,9% per such transaction. You can accept payment over the phone.
PayDirect don't have anything like that.
Currently PayPalHere has the special machine, which works via Bluetooth with almost any smartphone which is able to download a special application.
PayDirect machine attaches to a phone via headphone connection and works with very few phone models, which is fine as long as everybody has iPhone. it works with Android 4+ (Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S4, LG Nexus 5, HTC One Mini), iOS 7+ (iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s)
You have to have internet connection for both devices.
How payments processed?
PayPalHere works itself, transaction transferred faster.
PayDirect works with Bendigo bank. Probably it faster if you business bank account is in the same bank.
What do you need to apply?
PayPalHere requests proof of birth date and address and a business name registration certificate. I uploaded my driver license for both proofs, but it turned out it should be 2 different docs. Take into account I had PayPal account before, these documents were additional.
PayDirect. You need to complete a form. Basically it's Bendigo form, but their optimised it on the website and made online instead of boring paper one. Also you need to send them a copy of you ID and bank statement.
I'm online person, prefer to contact via emails. When you have a baby it's easier than trying to find the quiet moment. PayPal responses in 1-2 days.
When I sent an email to PayDirect I was waiting for response few days, than resent it, waited 2 more days and wrote on their forum, then they replied immanently. After that I emailed few more questions and had 1 hour reply. Also they have a really cool website, I'm fan of single page websites and they made it great.
So PayPal Here looks better to me so far, but PayDirect has a great perspective if their make Bluetooth device also and review pricing.
If you are looking for an online solution or you take payment over the phone, use Stripe
Their charge 2.7% + $0.3 in Australia what is cheaper than PayPal.
Hope it helps someone. You comments are welcome.
